Honor for MITS Student

Sometimes we are full of good news at MITS.  We are happy that Lydia Waithera, one of our 14-year-olds, has been selected by MYSA (a youth sports association) to travel with a soccer team of "under 15s" to Norway to play in a series of matches.  How exciting!  And a door-opener for us as well.  Jackton Omondi is our sports coach.  He says that when he was a kid he dreamed of going to Europe with a sports team, but he was never selected.  Now one of his own gets to go!  We always say at MITS that we want our kids to be more successful than we are, just as I have always prayed that our Kenyan Team would go beyond what Darlene and I could accomplish.
The first picture is Lydia in her new uniform, a gift from friends of MITS in California.  Below she is practicing with the soccer team that will go to Norway.
We especially enjoy Lydia having this honor.  She was neglected and abused by her family and ended up on the streets.  Her mother seems to hate her; she would not even tell us where Lydia was born so that we could get a birth certificate (necessary for the trip).  But Jackton found a local Chief and another person who confirmed her birth, and he was able to get her birth certificate last week, just in time for her to be confirmed for the team.  Blessing!!
